Lost Library Book

So a few weeks ago, as you know, I got ambitious and took Jeremy to the library. It really wouldn't be that big of a deal except it kills my legs and back to walk around. So I thought we had all the library books gathered up and I checked our receipt from the library and returned them. Well somehow I missed one and the library let me know. I found it in Jeremy's room and put it out to return it but I kept forgetting on the rare occasion I left the house to take it with me. So the library sent me this notice telling me it was a misdemeanor to keep library books and all the ways I would be punished. Oh my gosh! I feel a little put out by this. I have been a responsible library patron for all of my 32 years and really, a misdemeanor? I think it should be a misdemeanor to pick your nose in public. So that's what I say to those library people who threaten me, go pick your nose, I'm sure no one is dying to read that book on the phases of the moon.

Primary Park Activity

Today we all went to the Primary activity in the park. I really wanted to take Jeremy because I haven't taken him to our mom's play group at Atlantis Park in a few weeks. That park is just too big for my sick belly to wander around keeping track of Jeremy. He just wanted to play on the playground, but I told him he needed to participate in the activity, and he did and had fun. They did water balloon toss and baseball and some other things. Daddy and Chris Hicks had fun tossing the water balloons too and then they played baseball with the kids. I felt bad, but I finally told Daddy we needed to go because I was so sick. Loose Tooth

Jeremy has his first loose tooth! I was sitting here at the computer and he came in and said, "Mama, my tooth is broke!" It was so wiggly already. I can't believe he's losing one this young, but he is getting his 6 year molars and it said on the internet they start losing the baby teeth between 5-6 years old, so I guess he's just getting a jump on things. He's never paid attention to anyone losing their teeth, so he was a little freaked out. We'll have to show him some kids missing teeth at church tomorrow.

National Doughnut Day

So today is National Donut Day and I know that Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts, so I thought I'd provide a little history. This is definitely not a made-up Hallmark holiday.

National Doughnut Day honors the Salvation Army "Lassies" of WWI. It is also used as a fund raiser for needy causes of the Salvation Army.
The original Salvation Army Doughnut was first served by Salvation Army in 1917. During WWI, Salvation Army "lassies" were sent to the front lines of Europe. These brave volunteers made home cooked foods, and provided a moral boost to the troops. Often, the doughnuts were cooked in oil inside of the metal helmet of an American soldier. The American infantrymen were commonly called doughboys. Salvation Army lassies were the only women outside of military personnel allowed to visit the front lines. Lt. Colonel Helen Purviance is considered the Salvation Army's "first doughnut girl".

Funny Boy

My SIL is so good at writing down the funny things that her kids say, and I should be better since they're so precious and I have the worst memory ever. So the other day I was lying down and Jeremy came in with the scriptures open and pointed to a verse and said, "Look Mama, it's your scripture. It says Mama is sleeping in her bed." Who says the scriptures are hard to apply to us? :) Jeremy's also been watching the Chicken Little movie lately and he came up to me and said, "I like closure; Mama I need a book about closure." He's also really into saying everything is crazy. That's the craziest book, that cow is so crazy, etc.

New Look

So something went haywire in my old blog template, and I tried and tried but I couldn't fix it, so that's why the new look. There are things I like better about it and things I don't, but I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Grinch Poll Results

Okay, so the Grinch poll was very poorly voted on. My sister even told me she'd never seen the Grinch movie all the way through! What!?!?! I told her to go put it at the top of her Netflix queue right now!!! What in the world. Anyway, most of you preferred the original with Boris Karloff, my personal favorite. Be sure to vote in the next poll which I will go try to think up right now.

Flu and Friends

My poor boys! They have had the flu really badly. I have known David for 13 years and he has never been as sick as this. David is finally well and going back to work tomorrow, but he started in with it Thursday night, and then Jeremy started throwing up Saturday night. I have been trying to not get it as I have enough issues of my own! But you know how it is when someone is sick in the house; somehow it mysteriously spreads no matter how hard you try to disinfect everything. I felt bad because my sister and her family came from Utah for a funeral and stopped by to visit before we knew David and Jeremy were getting sick. The kids had fun playing in the backyard and they enjoyed some fruit off our trees. Then on Saturday we went to Costco with Jon and Brooke and then they invited us over for yummy seafood bbq. I had been craving shrimp and it was so yummy with the fresh pineapple on the kabobs. Mmmmmm! But so far so good, no one else is sick and I hope it stays that way. Being sick every day with my pregnancies makes me especially empathetic to people with the flu, because that's what pregnancy feels like to me, the 9 month flu. We are keeping quarantined in our house this week just to make sure it doesn't spread, but I know it's going around, so best wishes to you to stay healthy and happy!

Memorial Day Weekend

All right, catch up time. Last weekend was of course Memorial Day. On Sunday night we had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins, like normal, and then we camped out in the backyard! It was fun. We had a little tent city back there, one for each family. We barbecued and made smores and the kiddies slept way too little. But it was fun! I love sleeping outside and especially on the nice cushy grass with an air mattress and the bathroom not so far away. We planned it the week before when it was miserably hot, and by the time the weekend came it was threatening rain, but it held off for us. The next afternoon the whole family went to the cheap theater to see Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who. Well, don't ask me how it was because the movie kept breaking down so we finally got our money back for all 16 of us. So disappointing. But the weekend was an adventure we won't forget!

Bonus Pie Month

Okay, so for those of you who know me, I am a Marie Callendar's pie month fanatic!!! It's always February and October and I am always there. So when my sister told me they were doing a special pie month in June for their 60th anniversary I had to be down there the first day I could. I zipped down there after my dr. appt. and got a german chocolate pie. I have been craving chocolate and it gave me my fix! Yay pie month!!!
